Putting
It Together
NORTH
HOLLYWOOD, CA - Putting
it together with all Sondheim songs is a sure-fire evening of stage
magic. An Evening Of Simply Sondheim produced by
the ELATE theater group certainly delivered. From Sondheim's
early musicals like Follies, through his big hits like Into
The Woods, to songs from the movies, Sondheim's music has
something for everyone. The cast was well rehearsed and
thoroughly enjoyed themselves on stage while spinning out more words
than a Webster's Dictionary. The songs were well chosen for all the
combinations: solos, duets, trios, etc. The cast: Aimee Boice,
Renee Laramore, Steve Niccoli, Heather Schulz and Rob Terrazas worked
so well together, it would be great to see them do another show
together. Anyone up for an evening of Andrew Lloyd Webber? Well,
maybe not. Nothing could top Sondeim.

"Hi
There Sailor"
HOLLYWOOD,
CA - Playing for months at the Celebration Theater, and
held over for additional weeks, Pinafore! is a
very unique and witty adaptation of the Gilbert and Sullivan
opera, HMS Pinafore. Marc Savage wrote the modern day
lyrics to the existing score which had Gilbert turning over in
his grave and the audience rolling in the aisles.
The performances were outstanding, especially the part of
Joseph/Josephine played by
R.
Christopher Stands. With
an amazing soprano voice and perfect comedic timing, he kept the
audience in stitches, often forgetting that the part was played
by a man. The homosexual references, many of which were present
in the original script and now taken to an extreme made this a
hilarious and entertaining production.
Keep an eye out for further Gilbert and Sullivan adaptations
from Marc Savage, they are sure to be equally as brilliant.
